New Delhi: The Indian Army announced on Thursday that it has registered intellectual property rights for a new design and camouflage pattern uniform.

The Controller of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Kolkata, has completed the registration process for a new camouflage pattern and improved combat uniform design to confirm ownership by the Indian Army, the defense ministry said in a statement.

The exclusive Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the design and camouflage pattern now rests exclusively with the Indian Army and therefore any manufacture by any unauthorized vendor is illegal and may have legal consequences, it added. .

The new digital combat uniform of Indian Army soldiers was announced on 15th January 2022 (Army Day).

The improved uniform has a modern look and functional design. The fabric has been made lighter, stronger, breathable, quick drying and easier to maintain. The uniqueness of the uniform can be seen when gender-specific changes have been incorporated into the women’s combat outfit.

The Indian Army may enforce exclusive rights to the design and may file infringement actions in a civil court of competent jurisdiction. Remedies for violations include temporary and permanent injunctions and damages, the statement said.

As part of the introduction of the new model uniform, a total of 50,000 sets have been procured through the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) and delivered to 15 CSD warehouses (Delhi, Leh, BD Bari, Srinagar, Udhampur, Andaman & Nicobar). , Jabalpur, Masimpur, Narangi, Dimapur, Bagdogra, Lucknow, Ambala, Mumbai and Khadki).

Workshops to train civilian and military tailors to stitch the new uniform as per the specified pattern are organized in collaboration with instructors from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi.

It added that bulk procurement of 11.70 lakh sets for JCOs and ORs as part of a single package (Life Cycle Concept, 15 months life) is underway and is likely to start in August 2023.
