In the international market, the new Honda Compact SUV competes with the likes of Toyota Yaris Cross, Nissan Kicks and Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky. The new compact SUV is said to be based on the new Honda Fit hatchback platform, which also underpins the new City sedan.
According to the report, the new Honda SUV is expected to be around 4.2 meters long, 1.76 meters wide and 1.6 meters tall. It will likely have a wheelbase of 2,530 mm, similar to the Fit hatchback. For comparison, the wheelbase of the City is 2,600 mm.
The new Honda compact SUV is expected to share engine options with the city sedan. It will likely get Atkison Cycle’s 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. The gasoline engine produces a peak power of 98 hp and with electric assistance 109 hp. Its combined torque is 253 Nm. The City hybrid has one fixed gear ratio and three driving modes – Engine, EV and Hybrid.
The new Honda compact SUV is also expected to get the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Civic sedan and City RS in select South Asian markets. This engine can produce up to 130 horsepower and nearly 200 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT automatic transmission.
COMPACT SUV FOR INDIA
Honda Cars India has already confirmed that it is developing a new compact SUV that will go on sale in our market in 2023. It is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023.
This compact SUV is around 4 meters long and competes with Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. The SUV is based on the Amaze platform, which shares common features with the City platform. It is expected to share engine options with the City sedan.
