They thought of me as ‘use & throw’: Sacked BJP Uttarakhand min Harak Singh Rawat after joining Cong

Dehradun: Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat on Friday joined his old party Congress, days after he was expelled from the BJP. Soon after returning to the Congress, Rawat said that he had joined the party unconditionally.

After joining the Congress a few days before the 2022 Uttarakhand assembly elections, Rawat said, “The BJP thought of me as a ‘use and throw’, I was very upset.”

He also said that he did not break his friendship with Union Home Minister Amit Shah till the last moment.

“When the Congress wins with an absolute majority on March 10, it will be my apology (for saying that there is no apology in politics). The BJP thought of me as ‘use and throw’; I was very upset. I am not. Broken Harak Singh Rawat said, ‘My friendship with Amit Shah lasted as I promised.

Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had said, “He (Harak Singh Rawat) was given due respect as long as he was with us… when (of Harak Singh Rawat joining Congress) the news surfaced. Aayi… The party has taken a decision. (To remove him) we have taken our decision… Now the Congress has to decide.”

Harak Singh Rawat’s daughter-in-law Anukreethy Gusain also joined Congress today in the presence of party’s campaign chief for Uttarakhand Harish Rawat and other senior leaders.

Harak Singh Rawat was among the 10 MLAs who had rebelled against the then Chief Minister Harish Rawat in 2016 and joined the BJP.

Voting for 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 14. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
