Japanese automaker Toyota Motors has announced that it has stopped manufacturing and selling its sedan Yaris in India. This decision of Toyota is shocking to many people, because the company had launched this car in the Indian market only three years ago.
According to the information, a major reason for Toyota’s decision regarding Yaris could be less than expected sales. Yaris was launched on April 25, 2018 with an ex-showroom price of Rs 8,75,000. But till the end of August this year, only 19,784 units of Yaris were sold. Actually, Yaris succumbed in the market to compete with luxurious cars like Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.
On ceasing production and sales of the Yaris, Toyota issued a statement saying, “This move is a part of Toyota’s product strategy that is committed to meeting the ever-changing needs of customers with the help of high-tech vehicles. Yaris was one. High class and premium sedan. We thank all the customers who have given love to this car while trusting the brand. We will be providing all the services related to this car to such customers in the years to come. Looking forward to launching the model in 2022.”
Toyota has said that it will continue to meet the needs of all Yaris customers through its dealer service outlets across the country with availability of genuine spare parts for at least the next 10 years on this discontinued model.
