Twitter directed to block Congress, Bharat Jodo Yatra deals

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court on Monday ordered Twitter to temporarily block the handles of the Congress and its Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign for allegedly violating copyright norms.

The lawsuit was filed following a complaint filed by Bengaluru-based music company MRT Music, which accused the Congress of “illegal use of audio recordings of the film KGF-Chapter 2”.

According to information, this ban has been imposed temporarily. In a complaint against the Congress, the makers of KGF had alleged that the Congress used songs from their film in promotional videos made for the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

In this case, the petitioner had claimed in the court while giving the CD that the original version had been used with minor changes and no permission was taken from them and they were not informed about it.

The court held that the preliminary material showed that if the alleged illegal use of phonograms was encouraged, irreparable harm would be caused to the plaintiff and the same would also lead to the encouragement of piracy in general, reported the Bar and Bench.

The court ordered Twitter to remove three links from the two handles and further ordered it to block the twitter handles of Congress and Bharat Jodo Yatra.
