Two dead found missing in Draupadi avalanche


New Delhi: Bodies of Assam climbers Deepshikha Hazarika and Tiklu Jirwa have been recovered from Meghalaya. Both went missing in an avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi.

On 4 October, an avalanche hit Draupadi’s Danda II mountain, trapping 41 climbers from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) at an altitude of 16,000 feet.

Earlier on October 5, NIM had released a list of 28 missing trainees, including Deepshikha.

NIM is a premier institute in the field of adventure sports in India. The students climbed the Draupadi Ka Danda-II mountain at a height of 17000 feet as part of a training programme.

On their way back on October 4, a group of 41 climbers came under a severe avalanche.
