Two killed in bridge collapse in Odisha’s Cuttack, CM announces ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh

Cuttack (Odisha): Two people were killed and one was seriously injured when a portion of the approach road of an old bridge connecting Chhatra Bazar and Malgodown in Odisha’s Cuttack city collapsed on Wednesday.

Earlier, officials said a part of the bridge collapsed, NDTV reported.

The official said the dead were laborers engaged in the nearby Taldanda canal renovation project and added that they were living near the approach road to the bridge.

Cuttack DM Bhabani Shankar Chayani said, “Investigation will be conducted and action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident.”

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh for the next of kin along with a divisional commissioner level inquiry of revenue; Informed the CMO of Odisha that also directed to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
