Uddhav faction sends party names, symbols for upcoming by-elections


Mumbai: A day after the Election Commission froze the use of the name Shiv Sena and its ‘bow and arrow’ symbol following the spat between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde, the Uddhav-led faction on Sunday unveiled three party symbols for the upcoming by-election in Mumbai’s Andheri East. .

They have also submitted two names representing the faction led by Uddhav.

‘Shiv Sena Balasaheb Thackeray’ is his first choice for the name and ‘Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’ is the second.

For the symbol, the faction has asked for Trishul (trident) as the first choice of symbol, rising sun as the second choice and ‘mashaal’ as the third.

On Saturday, the poll barred the Thackeray and Shinde factions from using the party’s name and symbol in the upcoming Andheri East Assembly by-election.

Thackeray has held the meeting of party leaders today at 12 pm to discuss the election symbol, while the other party will hold it at 7 pm.

Both groups were asked to send their chosen symbols to the Electoral Commission by 1pm on 10 October.
