Ukraine: Know all about Indian student killed in missile attack in Kharkiv

new Delhi: An Indian student was killed in Kharkiv on Tuesday in Russia’s shelling, Ukraine’s second largest city. The student was a resident of Karnataka and was studying medicine.

Student Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudar was a resident of Chalgeri in Haveri district of Karnataka.

According to reports, Naveen was out to buy groceries when Russian shelling began on Tuesday morning and a rocket hit the governor’s house in Kharkiv. He died on the spot.

Naveen was a fourth year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University in Kharkiv.

Manoj Rajan, Commissioner, Karnataka SDMA Said, “We have confirmed the unfortunate demise of Naveen Shekharappa in Ukraine from the Ministry of External Affairs. He was from Chalgeri, Haveri, had gone to a nearby store to buy something. Later his friend got a call from a local official. Came that he (Naveen) died.”

A report in The Indian Express quoted Naveen’s friend Sreedharan Gopalakrishnan from his hostel in Kharkiv as saying, “Naveen was shot dead this morning around 10.30 am Ukrainian time. He was in front of a grocery store. Was standing in a queue when the Russian army opened fire on people. We have no idea about his body. None of us could go to the hospital, maybe he is kept there now.”

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed condolences to the family. “The ministry is in touch with his family,” the ministry said.

Many Indian students stranded in crisis-hit Kharkiv are taking shelter in bunkers and waiting to be released from the country.
