Ukraine’s finance minister urges International Court of Justice to hear Ukraine

Kyiv: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba on Monday (local time) asked the International Court of Justice to hear Ukraine’s request as soon as possible and called on Russia to immediately stop all military activity in the country.

“…In light of the extraordinary urgency of the situation, Ukraine respectfully calls on the court to hear Ukraine’s request during the week of 28 February 2022,” Kuleba said in a statement. “…Ukraine requests the President of the Court to ask the Russian Federation to immediately stop all military operations in Ukraine so that the Court may enable any orders on request for temporary measures.”

Notably, tensions between Russia and Ukraine escalated when on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of Ukraine’s separate territory, following which Western countries tightened sanctions against the country.

Earlier talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in the Gomel region of Belarus had ended and the second round of talks will take place on the Belarusian-Polish border in a few days. (ANI)
