After sometime that day, explosives were also found at Dashashwamedh Ghat. A few days later, the police arrested Waliullah, a resident of Phulpur village in Allahabad, from Gosainganj area of Lucknow. Judge Jitendra Sinha sentenced Wali Ullah, a convict in the Varanasi bombing case, to death for murder, spreading terror, using explosive material and attempt to murder.
Waliullah is lodged in Dasna Jail for the last 16 years. After the sentencing, he pleaded for mercy saying that the condition of the elderly mother and the family was deteriorating, but the judge refused.
On 7 March 2006, there were bomb blasts at Sankatmochan Temple and Railway Cantt in Varanasi. Many people were killed in the blast. Along with this, a cooker bomb was found at Dashashwamedh Ghat. In connection with the serial blasts, UP Police arrested Valiullah, a resident of Phulpur village in Prayagraj district on 5 April 2006.
