Video: 200 injured as temporary spectator gallery collapses during football match in Kerala

Malappuram: Over two hundred people were injured when a temporary spectator gallery suddenly collapsed ahead of the start of a football match in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Saturday.

Police said a temporary spectator stand collapsed during a football match, injuring two hundred people and injuring five seriously. The incident took place on Saturday night at around 9 pm at Poonagod Stadium Malappuram when the match was about to begin. As per the scene, the organizers and several others reached the spot after the incident. People were also seen running on the ground in panic.

The injured have been admitted to hospital.

Regional football tournaments are quite popular in the northern district of Kerala and thus the match attracted thousands of spectators.
