VK Bhawra appointed as new Punjab DGP


Chandigarh: IPS officer Viresh Kumar Bhavra has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP).

“On the consideration of the panel received from the Union Public Service Commission, the Governor of Punjab, Viresh Kumar Bhawra, appoints IPS as the Director General of Police. Punjab (Chief of the Police Force). His tenure will be for a minimum period. 3 July of the Supreme Court of India , 2018 for a period of two years from the date on which he assumes office,” the order of the Governor of Punjab stated.

The panel committee had recommended a panel consisting of names of three officers suitable for appointment to the post of DGP (chief of police force). Dinkar Gupta, and Prabodh Kumar were the other two officers.

A 1987-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Bhavra has replaced acting DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, who is facing investigation after a security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab on January 5.
