According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), VP Dhankhar will visit Cambodia on November 11-13, 2022 to attend the ASEAN-India Memorial Summit and the 17th East Asia Summit.
The MEA said Monday the vice president’s visit to the Southeast Asian nation would be accompanied by Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
Cambodia is hosting these Summits in its capacity as the current Chairman of ASEAN.
The vice president will attend the ASEAN-India Memorial Summit in Phnom Penh on November 12, 2022, the MEA said, adding that this year will mark the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-India relations and will be celebrated as the ASEAN-India Friendship Year.
On November 13, 2022, the Vice President will attend the 17th East Asia Summit, which will bring together the ten ASEAN member states and their eight dialogue partners – India, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Russia.
“During his visit, the Vice President will also hold bilateral talks with the Cambodian leadership. On the sidelines of the summits, he will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders from other countries,” the MEA said.
“While returning from Phnom Penh, the Vice President will also visit Siem Reap to review the conservation and restoration work that India is undertaking on Cambodian heritage sites,” he added.
ASEAN-India dialogue relations began with the establishment of a sectoral partnership in 1992. This was upgraded to a full dialogue partnership in December 1995 and a summit-level partnership in 2002, PTI news agency reported.
The connections were expanded into a strategic partnership in 2012.
ASEAN includes Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia and Myanmar.
