West Bengal: PM Modi to address Matua community, attend Baruni Mela

Thakurnagar (West Bengal): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Matua community of West Bengal on March 29. According to Matua leader Shantanu Thakur, PM Modi will deliver a speech on March 29 after paying homage to the community’s patriarch Harichand Thakur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay homage to Harichand Thakur through a virtual address. Celebrations of the 211th birth date of Harichand Thakur are scheduled to start from March 29. The Baruni Mela will be held at Thakurbari in Thakurnagar in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal from that date.

“PM Narendra Modi will pay homage at the fair,” Shantanu Thakur told the media.

Incidentally, Shantanu Thakur’s feud with the state BJP leadership came to light last January. Shantanu Thakur has reportedly quit all WhatsApp groups in the state BJP after that incident. He had also vented its anger against the BJP leadership. The BJP has been trying to win the minds of the Matua community mind since before the 2021 assembly polls.

After the success in the assembly elections in five states including Uttar Pradesh, for now the focus of the BJP’s central leadership is on the next Lok Sabha elections of 2024.

The Baruni Mela was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last year, the fair was organized on a much smaller scale. This year’s fair will start on Tuesday. This time at least 4 million fans may attend the fair.
