Woman chained in room for 36 years, set free


New Delhi: A woman, who recently turned 53, was chained to a room by her father in Mohammadabad village of Firozabad’s Tundla district due to her alleged mental illness. The woman was freed because an NGO notified the police.

According to media reports, the woman was chained by her father when she was just 17 years old. His family gave him food from under the door. It was released by Agra’s former mayor and BJP MLA from Hathras, Anjula Mahaur.

The woman’s condition came to light when a local NGO approached the woman when her father expired. The woman was found chained in the filth.

Seeing her in this condition, they helped the woman clean up and get new clothes. The deceased was sent to a mental health facility in Agra after the BJP leader convinced his family.

The doctors who began the treatment said that the woman would be fine in a few weeks.
