WPL 2023:Dunkley scores fastest fifty in Women’s Premier League

New Delhi: Gujarat Giants’ Sophia Dunkley has become the fastest ever player to hit a half-century in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. With this, Gujarat Giants registered the highest performance score in the WPL so far (64/1).

The England batting all-rounder reached his fifty with the help of 9 boundaries and 2 maximums. Dunkley hammered 23 off a Preeti Bose on her way to an 18-ball fifty.

Before Dunkley, Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur held the record for the fastest fifty in the WPL. Kaur scored her half-century off just 22 balls in the tournament opener against Gujarat Giants.

Dunkley’s bombardment ended when Shreyanka Patil removed his wicket. Dunkley hit a six and a four but fell in the same delivery and was caught at long off.

Match report card

Early in the game, Megan Schutt missed S Meghana 8 (11). It got the better of poor Meghan Schutt as she ended up getting a wicket. Still three boundaries came towards the end. At the other end, he became unsteady, delivered with a couple of rooms, and Sophia Dunkley smashed two boundaries of the wicket and Meghana one in the middle. But Schutt came back well and Meghana cut short and Richa Ghosh made no mistake this time.

Earlier, GG’s stand-up skipper Sneha Rana chose to bat first after winning the toss.
