Zee Theatre premieres ‘Gunehgaar’, a star-studded, compelling suspense thriller

New Delhi: If thriller and suspense as a genre drives your entertainment needs, Zee Theater has launched its latest telethon, Gunehgaar. This suspenseful drama about crime and revenge revolves around the lives of three key figures – a journalist, a cop and an ordinary person. Directed by Akarsh Khurana, ‘Gunehgaar’ features versatile actor Gajraj Rao, dazzling beauty Shweta Basu Prasad and star actor Sumeet Vyas in prominent roles. An alluring and engaging poster is released to announce the play’s launch, hinting at a truly immersive narrative. The play will be available on major DTH platforms like Tata Play, Airtel TV, Dish TV and D2h.

Shailja Kejriwal, Creative Director, ZEEL Special Projects, says of Zee Theatre’s latest offering, “This play draws on the finest traditions of the suspense genre and exemplifies storytelling at its best. In the story penned by Abhijit Guru, Akarsh has brought a Hitchcockian style and there is such dramatic tension in the way the characters explore the true meaning of crime, guilt and accountability. – Gunehgaar is a thorough performer. It is rich in sharp dialogues and the verbal sparring between the characters is something the audience will enjoy along with excellent performances by Gajraj Rao, Shweta Basu Prasad and Sumeet Vyas.”

Bollywood’s favorite actor Gajraj Rao, who is working in teleplay for the first time, adds, “When Akarsh shared this idea, the story seemed very interesting to me. Akarsh’s connection with the grammar of theater has remained intact and he knows very well how to interpret theater for the small screen while keeping the nuances intact. I used to do theater in Delhi but after coming to Mumbai I didn’t get the chance. This teleplay isn’t exactly like a stage show, but it’s a worthy television counterpart. I also applied because the Zee Theater team has been working hard to bring theater to the television audience for many years now. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to be part of a truly unique experiment.”

Being attracted to the complexity of her character, Shweta Basu Prasad says, “My character, the female lead, attracted me to this teleplay. There are so many layers to it; he seems tough, ambitious and driven. It’s hard to tell who he is. It was interesting to explore Mrinalini and her complexities.”

“What excites me is the treatment given to the whole set and shoot. I wasn’t sure about this at first, since it was my first time working in teleplay. But as we closed the play, I enjoyed the whole process. The audience mixes the theater and the essence of the camera well. The play will certainly engage the audience.” Sumeet Vyas concluded his thoughts.
