Nearly 20 lakh candidates appeared for the examination, which was conducted on 21 June 2026 at 5,440 examination centres across 551 cities in India and 14 international cities.
Aryan Gupta and Panshul Bansal emerge as highest scorers
The highest score in NEET UG 2026 was 715 out of 720, jointly secured by Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana.
Among the top performers:
- 138 candidates scored above 690 marks
- 19 candidates scored above 700
- 1,492 candidates scored 650 or more
- 10,160 candidates scored 600 or more
- 90,780 candidates scored 500 or more
According to NTA, over 93% of the top 138 rank holders appeared for NEET for the first time, while 99% of them are between 17 and 19 years of age.
More than 58% of qualified candidates are women
Women accounted for more than 58% of all qualified candidates this year.
The agency also noted that the qualification rate among female candidates stood at 56.8%, compared to 55.1% among male candidates.
Qualified candidates were reported from all 36 States and Union Territories, with Uttar Pradesh recording the highest number of successful candidates at more than 1.7 lakh, while Lakshadweep had 43 qualified candidates.
Seventeen State toppers scored 700 or above, while 26 State toppers secured more than 690 marks.

According to NTA, the number of qualified candidates in different categories is as follows:
- General: 2.91 lakh
- OBC-NCL: 5.12 lakh
- SC: 1.59 lakh
- ST: 63,716
- Gen-EWS: 95,026
- PwBD: 3,666
- PwD: 303
Category-wise cut-off marks and percentile details have also been released along with the results.

NTA outlines result declaration timeline
The agency stated that the result was declared after completing multiple stages of evaluation within the planned schedule.
The timeline included:
- 25 June 2026: Provisional answer key released and objection window opened.
- 25–28 June 2026: Candidates submitted challenges to the provisional answer key.
- 13–15 July 2026: Scanned OMR sheets and recorded responses made available.
- 16 July 2026: Final answer key and NEET UG 2026 result published.
Counselling to begin through MCC and State authorities
NTA clarified that it is responsible only for conducting the examination, declaring the result and issuing the All India Rank.
Counselling for 15% All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), while State counselling authorities will manage admissions under their respective quotas.
Candidates have been advised to rely only on official counselling websites and remain cautious of fraudulent calls, messages or websites claiming to offer admissions or score improvements in exchange for money.
